Minnesota Manual Updates & Revisions

2024 Class-D Manual Updates

Find the latest updates to Minnesota's Class-D driver manual that were released after the manuals were printed. We will do our best to post the most recent changes that have gone through legislation in the state on Minnesota here.

2024 Motorcycle Fee Updates

  • You will now pay the license fee plus a $17.00 endorsement fee when you renew your license with endorsement.
  • Motorcycle instruction permit/endorsement fee is now $29.00
  • Motorcycle endorsement renewal (2 wheel only) is now $17.00
  • Operators Permit under 21, valid to age 21 is now $17.75​​
  • Duplicate of operator's permit is now $13.25
  • Operator's permit renewal, age 21 or older is now $23.75
  • There is now a "No Show Fee" (road/skills test) of $20.00

Some sections of the CDL manual have been rewritten with several updates, and new information has been added in 2024. Please review the following links to see these changes.

13.1.1 - Turns (Updated from 12.1.1)

  • You have been asked to make a turn:
    • Check traffic in all directions.
    • Use turn signals and safely get into the lane needed for the turn.
  • As you approach the turn:
    • Use turn signals to warn others of your turn.
    • Slow down smoothly, change gears as needed to keep power, but do not coast unsafely. Unsafe coasting occurs when your vehicle is out of gear (clutch depressed or gearshift in neutral) for more than the length of your vehicle.
  • If you must stop before making the turn:
    • Come to a smooth stop without skidding.
    • Come to a complete stop behind the stop line, crosswalk, or stop sign.
    • ​If stopping behind another vehicle, stop where you can see the rear tires on the vehicle ahead of you (safe gap).
    • Do not let your vehicle roll.
    • Keep the front wheels aimed straight ahead.​​
  • When ready to turn:
    • Check traffic in all directions.
    • Keep both hands on the steering wheel during the turn.
    • Keep checking your mirror to make sure the vehicle does not hit anything on the inside of the turn.
    • Vehicle should not move into oncoming traffic.
    • Vehicle should finish turn in correct lane.
  • After turn:
    • Make sure turn signal is off.
    • Get up to speed of traffic, use turn signal, and move into right-most lane when safe to do so (if not already there).
    • Check mirrors and traffic.​​

Minnesota Driver FAQ's

What driver's manual do I need?

This is a loaded question because you could be looking for one or more driver classifications in Minnesota.
  • The Class-D Driver's Manual will help you learn the state of Minnesota's rules for driving a standard vehicle; car, van, SUV, and pickup truck.
  • A CDL Manual will teach you the rules for driving a commercial vehicle in the state of Minnesota.
  • The Motorcycle Operating Manual will help you understand the rules and regulations for driving a two-wheeled vehicle such as a motorcycle or scooter in the state on Minnesota.

Where can I get a Minnesota driver's manual?

A MN driver's manual can be ordered online at www.MNDriversManuals.com or picked up at any Minnesota DMV location.  Visit our DMV Locations page to find a Minnesota DMV office near you.

How long does it take to receive a driver's manual?

  • Retail manual orders are mailed via USPS First Class and should arrive within five business days. 
    • If you recently moved to Minnesota, please make sure your new address is registered with USPS to limit any confusion with the carrier.
    • Make sure your name is updated on the mailbox in an apartment building.  A delivery could be returned if the box lists a different persons name.
  • Bulk manual orders are generally shipped with UPS and should deliver within 3-4 business days.

Can I purchase driver's manuals for my driving school?

Yes. Please fill out our commercial member registration to see if you qualify for our bulk order savings.

What are the fees associated with getting a driver's license in the state of Minnesota?

You can find the current Minnesota driver's license fees on the MN DPS Website.

Can I order a Class-D Manual in Spanish?

We do not currently print a Spanish version of the MN drivers manuals, but you can view the Spanish Class-D manual here.
